Challenge

Providing a safe environment and furnishings for pediatric behavioral health patients. Coordinating the installation of a Snoezelen multi-sensory environment therapy room which, due to equipment design, is difficult to implement. Snoezelen rooms are artifically engineered spaces that use music, lighting, gentle vibrations, tactile sensations and aromatherapy to provide a relaxing or stimulating environment, depending on one's sensory needs.

Success

Northstar engaged furniture vendor early in planning process to review available product and utility in pediatric settings. Northstar led Owner review team with vendor representatives to review furniture, entertainment, equipment, and clinical support equipment storage and workflow. Northstar worked closely with vendor representatives to ensure safety and security of products purchased such as artwork, dry erase boards, tables, chairs and beds. Northstar also worked closely with Flaghouse representatives in the design, installation and training of the Snoezelen therapy room.
